Analysis of Iterative Methods for the Steady and Unsteady Stokes Problem: Application to Spectral Element Discretizations
نویسندگان
چکیده
A new and detailed analysis of the basic Uzawa algorithm for decoupling of the pressure and the velocity in the steady and unsteady Stokes operator is presented. The paper focuses on the following new aspects: explicit construction of the Uzawa pressure-operator spectrum for a semiperiodic model problem; general relationship of the convergence rate of the Uzawa procedure to classical inf-sup discretiz-ation analysis; and application of the method to high-order variational discretization.

متن کاملSpectral Element Approximation of the Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations in a Moving Domain and Applications
In this thesis we address the numerical approximation of the incompressible NavierStokes equations evolving in a moving domain with the spectral element method and high order time integrators. First, we present the spectral element method and the basic tools to perform spectral discretizations of the Galerkin or Galerkin with Numerical Integration (G-NI) type. We cover a large range of possibil...

SUMMARY We study different variants of the augmented Lagrangian-based block triangular preconditioner introduced by the first two authors in [SIAM J. The preconditioners are used to accelerate the convergence of the Generalized Minimal Residual (GMRES) method applied to various finite element and MAC discretizations of the Oseen problem in two and three space dimensions. Both steady and unstead...

متن کاملHybrid Schwarz-Multigrid Methods for the Spectral Element Method: Extensions to Navier-Stokes
The performance of multigrid methods for the standard Poisson problem and for the consistent Poisson problem arising in spectral element discretizations of the Navier-Stokes equations is investigated. It is demonstrated that overlapping additive Schwarz methods are effective smoothers, provided that the solution in the overlap region is weighted by the inverse counting matrix. It is also shown ...
